Under the patronage and presence of the President of the University of Babylon, Professor Dr. Amean Ajeel Al-Yasir, the Special Needs Unit at the university held the second annual festival in celebration of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities under the slogan "Inspiring Celebration.. Empowering Technology. and Lasting Impact." The event was attended by the University’s Assistant President for Scientific Affairs, Professor Dr. Mohammed Mansour Al-Khafaji, the Assistant President for Administrative Affairs, Professor Dr. Meethaq Talib Al-Jubouri, along with several deans of colleges, security leaders, community figures, university staff, students, and specialized institute members with determination..
The university president, in his speech, affirmed the University of Babylon’s ongoing commitment to supporting students with disabilities as an active segment capable of creativity and excellence, stressing that investing in their talents is investing in the country’s future. He emphasized the university s dedication to providing a flexible and comprehensive educational environment that guarantees genuine opportunities for their development and success.
Meanwhile, the head of the university’s Special Needs Unit, Dr. Hurra Al-Shallah, explained that the university operates according to a comprehensive vision aimed at promoting academic and social inclusion for this segment. This is achieved through specialized support programs based on empowerment rather than mere care, respecting their abilities and turning the challenges they face into opportunities for achievement.
The festival included an art exhibition and a variety of activities, in addition to an awareness lecture presented by trainer Emad Al-Fahad. He pointed out that quality does not mean producing defect-free individuals or products but rather those able to perform their functions efficiently. He emphasized the necessity of changing the mindset towards persons with disabilities, shifting from an approach of care and pity to one of partnership and empowerment. The activities concluded with honoring the supporting deans and students with distinguished abilities who demonstrated outstanding participation in various university activities.
