The President of the University of Babylon, Professor Dr.Amean Ajeel AL-Yasir recently conducted an extensive virtual meeting with representatives from the University of Liverpool and the University of Huddersfield. This meeting was held in accordance with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research’s strategic plan to broaden collaboration with British academic institutions under the “Academic Bridge” initiative, which aims to enhance international partnerships and advance the higher education framework in Iraq.
The session included key university officials such as the Vice President for Scientific Affairs, Professor Dr. Muhammad Mansour Al-Khafaji, the Vice President for Administrative Affairs, Professor Dr. Meethaq Talib Al-Jubouri, and the Director of Scholarships and Cultural Relations, Dr. Ahmad Fawzi Halbous.
Agenda items encompassed a variety of medium- and long-term academic cooperation projects, including faculty exchanges in comparable disciplines, joint supervision of graduate students, and the organization of collaborative workshops, conferences, and symposia. The plans also feature the establishment of annual international scientific conferences per discipline, authorization of external examiners, publication of research in globally indexed databases, and the facilitation of completing research tenure for postgraduate students at UK universities.
The dialogue further addressed initiatives for enhancing undergraduate education and upgrading research infrastructure at the University of Babylon, aligning these improvements with international quality standards. The meeting concluded with a consensus to proceed with an official visit by the University of Babylon President to the United Kingdom scheduled for the following week, to conduct on-site evaluations of laboratories, lecture halls, and scientific resources at partner British universities, all within the framework of the Ministry’s agenda to promote scientific research and modernise educational methods in Iraq.
