Babylon University has been recognized as one of the top three Iraqi universities for research citations, according to data from the global Scopus database covering the period from 2019 to 2025. Dr. Ali Salah Hassan, Director of the Scientific Affairs Department, reported that the university amassed an impressive total of 56,352 citations. This achievement positions Babylon University alongside other leading institutions such as the University of Baghdad and the University of Technology, further establishing its role as a prominent hub for research and innovation in the region and advancing its pursuit of scientific and research excellence.
Dr. Ali emphasized that this accomplishment is a testament to the university’s ongoing commitment to excellence in scientific research and knowledge dissemination, under the leadership of President Professor Dr. Amin Ajeel Al-Yasiri and Assistant President for Scientific Affairs Professor Dr. Mohammed Mansour Al-Khafaji. It also reflects the sustained efforts of faculty and researchers in producing high-quality research that is widely recognized and cited by the global academic community.
He further noted that attaining this advanced ranking in citation metrics on Scopus demonstrates the quality and international impact of the university’s research, underscoring its significant contribution to sustainable community development through both applied and academic scientific research.
Additionally, Dr. Ali highlighted that Scopus is the world’s largest database for abstracts and citations from peer-reviewed literature—including scientific journals, books, and conference proceedings—and serves as an essential tool for researchers and academic institutions to assess research performance and monitor research impact
