Under the patronage of the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Naeem Al-Aboudi, the University of Babylon organized its First Scientific Forum for Sustainable Universities titled "Developing Education Towards a Scientific Future Supported by Artificial Intelligence: Visions and Expectations." The event was held under the supervision of the University President, Dr. Amin Al-Yasiri, along with his scientific and administrative assistants, deans, faculty members, and students.
In his opening speech, Dr. Al-Yasiri announced the launch of the University’s International Platform for Sustainable Development, emphasizing the critical role of artificial intelligence (AI) in advancing scientific research and achieving the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. He stressed the importance of mastering technology in general and AI in particular, highlighting the need to understand the deep connection between AI and scientific research to meet these goals.
He also pointed out that achieving sustainable development depends on educational justice and democracy, providing research opportunities at all levels, ensuring transparency, and facilitating funding.
The forum included a presentation by the Assistant President for Scientific Affairs outlining the platform’s objectives, which serve as a central tool for managing international activities across university colleges and centers, including twinning programs, international seminars and conferences, joint publishing, and academic agreements. This aligns with the Ministry’s direction toward digital transformation and enhancing documentation efficiency and information accessibility.
Dr. Wissam Samir Buheia, Dean of the College of Information Technology, delivered a lecture on the ethical and legal use of AI in educational environments, emphasizing the need to establish a framework that aligns AI applications with academic and societal values.
Assistant Professor Dr. Alaa Taima from the University of Qadisiyah presented on AI as a catalyst for innovation in education and learning, while Dr. Amna Atiyah Dawood discussed the AI revolution towards a smart and sustainable educational system.
