The University of Babylon has achieved significant progress in institutional performance indicators related to global scientific publishing, according to the latest data released by the prestigious international databases Scopus and SciVal as of April 24, 2025. Statistics show that the university has published a total of 11,013 scientific papers from 1996 until now, with a Field-Weighted Citation Impact (FWCI) of 0.98. This reflects the high quality and notable scientific impact of its publications, as well as the strength of the international partnerships the university has developed.
The data also indicate that the University of Babylon enjoys a prominent presence on the global research stage, with 2,241 papers published in collaboration with researchers from outside Iraq. The number of citations for the university’s research has exceeded 60,000, underscoring the high scientific value of its research output.
In supporting the Sustainable Development Goals, the report highlighted the university’s advanced position in research related to these goals for 2023, with 84 papers published in first-quartile (Q1) journals, 100 in second-quartile (Q2) journals, and 139 in third-quartile (Q3) journals. The total number of citations for these papers reached 92,842. Additionally, 7,169 papers from the university have been cited, and 113 of its papers have been cited in patents. The statistics also show that there are 4,959 researchers registered under the university in the Scopus database, with a ratio of 2.216 papers per registered researcher.
Professor Dr. Amin Al-Yasiri, President of the University of Babylon, expressed his pride and appreciation for this achievement, commending the efforts of all faculty members, researchers, and administrative and scientific staff who contributed to these distinguished results. He affirmed the university’s ongoing commitment to supporting scientific research and emphasized the importance of continuing to work with the same spirit and determination to achieve further progress and leadership both locally and internationally.
