The Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Babylon, in collaboration with the College of Pharmacy at the University of Hillah, held its Second International Conference on Clinical and Experimental Therapeutic Research under the slogan "Towards Safe and Effective Treatment." The conference was attended by the representative of the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Professor Dr. Amin Al-Yasiri, President of the University of Babylon; the presidents of the University of Hillah and Al-Qasim Al-Khadhra University; along with several deans, representatives from the Babylon Health Directorate, academic syndicates, and a large number of researchers and pharmacy professionals.
The conference was sponsored by the Minister of Higher Education, Dr. Naeem Al-Aboudi, and supervised by the presidents of the University of Babylon and the University of Hillah. In his speech on behalf of the minister, Dr. Al-Yasiri emphasized the significant global shift in scientific research and drug development methodologies, highlighting the necessity of adopting a multidisciplinary research approach that integrates pharmaceutical sciences, clinical sciences, biotechnology, artificial intelligence, and bioinformatics to achieve safe and effective treatments based on clinical pharmacology data.
The President of the University of Hillah reviewed the historical development of pharmaceutical therapy and the role of specialists throughout history. Meanwhile, the conference chairman, Professor Dr. Hussam Wahab Al-Khafaji, Dean of the College of Pharmacy, stated that the conference received 124 research papers with participation from over 300 researchers from Iraq and abroad. The research topics included antibiotic misuse, promising applications of nanotechnology in drug formulation, drug development, drug repurposing, and drug safety.
Dr. Al-Khafaji affirmed that this international scientific event serves as a vital platform for disseminating research findings and discussing various pharmaceutical research topics. It also offers participants opportunities to publish their scientific work in Scopus-indexed journals. The conference attracted a distinguished group of pharmacologists, pharmacists, physicians, researchers, healthcare professionals, nutrition specialists, students, and related entities, providing a comprehensive overview of ongoing pharmaceutical research in Iraq and helping to set future research priorities
