Under the patronage of His Excellency the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Professor Dr. Naeem Al-Aboudi, Professor Dr. Amin Al-Yasiri, President of the University of Babylon, chaired the opening ceremony of the Third Sustainability Week at Al-Mustaqbal Private University. The event was attended by the Governor of Babylon, Mr. Adnan Fayhan Al-Dulaimi, the Chairman of the Babylon Provincial Council, Mr. Asaad Al-Muslimawi, the President of Al-Mustaqbal University, Professor Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi Al-Shammari, along with a number of Iraqi and foreign political and academic figures.
In his opening speech, Dr. Al-Yasiri highlighted the strategic support provided by the Ministry for sustainability projects, noting that these initiatives form a cornerstone of the Ministry’s vision to enhance educational and research infrastructure in line with global standards. He affirmed that the ministerial directives of Dr. Al-Aboudi focus on activating the role of universities in adopting modern technologies, integrating green economy concepts into curricula, and encouraging scientific innovations aimed at conserving natural resources.
Dr. Al-Yasiri added, “Our universities represent a national platform for preparing cadres capable of leading sustainable development transformations. Investing in higher education is a strategic bet on building Iraq’s future.” He also called for strengthening partnerships among government sectors, academia, and civil society to achieve integration in implementing the global sustainable development goals.
The event featured diverse activities, including an exhibition of innovative student projects in the environmental field, folkloric performances presented by the National House of Fashion, scientific dialogue sessions addressing contemporary environmental challenges, and a documentary film showcasing the historical heritage and notable figures of the Babylon region
