The University of Babylon has achieved a significant global accomplishment in the Scimago Ranking 2025, advancing to the 5723rd position worldwide among 9756 universities. Locally, the university rose to the 4th place among Iraqi universities out of 74 institutions, surpassing its previous rank of sixth last year.
Professor Dr. Amin Al-Yasiri, President of the University, stated that this achievement reflects the university s continuous development in scientific research and distinguished academic publishing, along with its contribution to technological advancement and innovation to support sustainable development goals.
Professor Dr. Mohammed Mansour Kazem, Assistant President for Scientific Affairs, highlighted that the Scimago Ranking is one of the most prominent global classifications, relying on credible data from the Scopus database. The ranking evaluates universities based on three main criteria: research performance (50%), innovation outputs (30%), and societal impact (20%). It also includes sub-indicators such as the number of published research articles, journal quality, citation counts, and relative impact factors. Furthermore, it requires universities to publish at least 100 research papers annually in Scopus-indexed journals.
Dr. Al-Yasiri praised the efforts of faculty members and researchers who contributed to this achievement, expressing particular appreciation for the team responsible for documenting the university’s accomplishments. This team is led by Professor Dr. Mohammed Mansour Kazem, along with Dr. Walid Ali (Head of International Rankings Division), Assistant Lecturer Haneen Ali Haleem (Head of Scientific Research Division), and other staff members.
