A workshop titled "The Impact of Water Scarcity on Environmental and Agricultural Reality in Babil Governorate" was conducted on November 11, 2024, under the supervision of Dr. Huda Sami Al-Hassan, Director of the Center for Environmental Research and Studies. Dr. Leila Abdul Karim presented the lecture, which addressed the pressing issue of water scarcity caused by resource depletion and poor management. This scarcity has led to health problems due to the use of contaminated water, resulting in diseases like cholera and hepatitis E, as well as environmental degradation and economic decline in agriculture.
To tackle this crisis, several solutions were proposed:
Modern Irrigation Techniques: Implementing advanced irrigation methods.
Agreements with Neighboring Countries: Establishing treaties for adequate water sharing.
Water Conservation Practices: Promoting efficient water use.
Regulatory Measures: Enforcing laws to manage water resources effectively.
The workshop highlighted the urgent need for collaborative efforts to address water scarcity and its significant impacts on health, the environment, and the economy.
