The University of Babylon, one of Iraq s major universities, has achieved the third rank nationally among the top ten Iraqi universities in the institutional performance index for scientific research, according to data from the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. The university s h-index increased from 79 in 2023 to 91 in 2024, reflecting the development of its research performance.
The President of the University, Prof. Dr. Qahtan Hadi Al-Jubouri, explained that the institutional performance indicators of the University of Babylon in scientific research, ranked according to the highest h-index from Scopus and Scival data from 1996 to 2025, reached 91 according to Scopus, with 9,842 published papers, 75,255 citations, 1,982 papers in international collaboration, and 192 papers related to industry and innovation.
The h-index is considered a tool for measuring the productivity and impact of researchers and research institutions, and many universities adopt it as a basic requirement for academic promotion, contributing to improving the quality of scientific research.
