A research team at the College of Dentistry at the University of Babylon published a scientific research titled "The Enzyme (MPO) Present in the Saliva of Patients with Dental Caries Caused by Lactobacillus Bacteria" in an international journal indexed in Scopus. The authors include Prof. Dr. Bahaa Hamdi Al-Amidi, Assistant Prof. Dr. Hanan Salman, and PhD student Riam Abdul Khudair.
The research involved diagnosing the bacteria known to cause dental caries, specifically Lactobacillus, using well-known methods for bacterial diagnosis through culturing on appropriate media. Subsequently, specific reagents were utilized to identify the characteristics of the bacteria. Additionally, Gram staining was employed to identify the shape of the lactobacillus bacteria. The research observed the prevalence of dental caries associated with this type of bacteria in both genders and across all age groups.
