University of Babylon Headway in UI Green Metric Ranking by 83 Ascending Ranks

The University of Babylon has been able to advance in the International ranking of environmentally friendly universities UI GREEN METRIC for the year 2018 to reach the rank (173) globally, having occupied the rank (256) last year. Also, the university  managed to retain its second place among Iraqi universities for the second consecutive year in the said ranking, where (719) universities from different countries of the world participated.

The Chancellor of the University, Dr. Adil Hadi al-Baghdadi, stated that this promotion has taken place due to following the criteria of ranking indicators by: providing the requirements of environmentally friendly universities; the university‚Äôs commitment to the concepts of environment and fostering its sustainability, contained in the identification of this classification; introducing training lectures on the concepts of university education as well as providing the solid infrastructure in such a way that it can reduce the consumption of normal energy and create alternative energy that preserves the environment and increase the green areas in it and thus reduce the rate of emission of toxic gases. 

He also pointed out that the University of Babylon has been able to achieve advanced ranks in a number of international and local rankings over the past few years, despite the novelty of its establishment in comparison with the prestigious universities; the university, though, has held it as a priority to develop the capabilities of scientific research and innovation in the fields of national and international importance, broadening the international accreditation of the university and its academic programs and enhancing its international reputation.

Meanwhile, Dr. Abbas Fadhil Hassoun, director of the Department of Quality Assurance and Academic Performance mentioned that this classification adopts six criteria: the physical design of the university, energy exploitation and climatic changes, waste disposal methods, water conservation, transportation as well as education.

It is worth mentioning that this ranking is overseen by a global organization that is interested in the green environment and sustainability development, and the University of Babylon entered this classification in 2017.
