Among the (28) Iraqi universities, the University of Babylon secured an advanced competitive place in the Scimago global classification. The Scimago World Ranking for the year 2023, which reviewed (8433) institutions worldwide, revealed that Iraqi universities and academic institutions had accomplished significant competitive performance.
The findings demonstrated that the Scimago categorization is based on a composite indicator that brings together three different criteria based on research performance (50%), innovation output (30%), and social effect (20%). Factors relating to references and relative influence as well as the requirement of publishing at least 100 papers in the SCOPUS database during the evaluation year.
It is worth noting that Iraqi universities and colleges are facing increased competition in international rankings such as the Shanghai Global Ranking of Academic Subjects, where the University of Baghdad appeared in the chemical engineering major, the (The Times) classification, where eight universities are located, and the (QS) classification, where five universities are located. Universities and the (Greenmetric) classification, which included seventy-three Iraqi universities and colleges, as well as the (Webometrics) classification, included more than one hundred Iraqi universities and colleges.
